#heArt... what is your plan?

It has taken some time for the development of our program to reach its max potentional at Akron and I will never say that we have arrived because I believe growth stops once you believe you have achieved.  There should always be a next step.  Yet, what I have learned and am trying to implement with these young men is that the process is just as important as the outcome.  Many of author/coaches have written on this and have given me insight.  In addition, my staff and closest inner circle has also provided me with ideas and thoughts that go into improving the process.  If you are to be successful... consistently... you should have a core set of values... and if they are good values you will find yourself on the positive side of the things more than the negative.  People ask all the time what does #heArt mean?  It represents how I personally try to live my life and how I try to coach and mentor young athletes.  It is attacking your life's priorities with a plan.  Sometimes things don't go according to the plan, but having one helps you get refocused, it acts as a compass to keep you on track.

My priorities:

1. Faith
2. Family
3. Friends
4. Basketball

My plan: #heArt
h-hard work, to be diligent, to persist, to be TOUGH
Pursue excellence with 100% effort and efficiency every day.
e-enthusiasm, to show passion, purpose, caring
Commit to excellence with positive energy and relentless persistence.
A-appreciation, humility, thankful
An attitude of gratitude, grow in both victory and defeat.
r-righteous, just, do the right thing because its right
Do what’s right because it is the right thing to do.
t-togetherness, we>me, family, unity, many hands
Team first, lead by giving, make teammates better.
